The long-term weather forecast is in favor and we expect nice days in Reykjavik. I want to remind you that this is Iceland and the weather ca change fast, so be prepared. An Icelandic saying is that, if you are unhappy with the weather, just wait 15 minutes and it will be totally different.

The first guests have arrived to Reykholt, for the Pre Bárány Meeting, so the point of no return is reached for me.

In the evening Saturday 21^st of August the Reykjavik Culture Night is planed. Held yearly since 1996, Menningarnótt celebrates the city’s "birthday". The festival is usually made to coincide with the Reykjavik Marathon, in the month of August. The majority of Icelanders flocks to the city to celebrate on this night, and the streets take on the air of a carnival, replete with clowns, fire-eaters and other amusing entertainers. The festivities are numerous, all shops, restaurants, coffees and galleries’ will be open until late night and a rock concert is planed in central Reykjavik. A spectacular display of fireworks over the harbor at 11pm brings the festivities to a close, although the party continues on into the wee hours of the morning.

So just promenade the streets of central Reykjavik and I am sure that you will be surprised. If you are planning to dine out that evening, do reservation right away or be prepared to wait unless you are early in and ready to be served between 6 and 8 pm.

There are now two weeks to go until the XXVI Bárány Society Meeting starts in Reykjavik. I hope everyone are preparing for the best, we are at least trying.  One of the nice things with international meetings is the opportunity that one gets to meet friends from far away and because there is no longer “should I stay or should I go” the list of participants is made public.

This is my first blog regarding the meeting and I will try to use it to put forward useful information before and during the meeting.
